Combining Family Points

Combine Ultimate Rewards points with one other household member.
Both people must share the same address.
Use Chase’s Combine Points option; check eligibility for both accounts.

Authorized Users

Sapphire Preferred also allows one household member’s airline rewards program account if they are an authorized user.

Six steps

Transfer and book

Find seats. Confirm dates, traveler count, cabin, miles and fees with the airline rewards program.
Check your account. Verify name, membership number and login access.
Calculate the shortfall. Subtract existing miles; apply the transfer ratio, bonus and increments.
Open Ultimate Rewards. Choose your eligible card and receiving airline rewards program.
Review and transfer. Check the recipient, amount and terms. Seats may disappear while points are in transit.
Book and confirm. Pay fees, complete ticketing and save the confirmation.

Transfer only what you need

Award: 75,400 miles. Existing balance: 12,000 miles.
Shortfall: 63,400 miles → transfer 64,000 Chase points at 1:1.
After booking: 600 miles remain. Fees additional; no bonus assumed.

Check bonus deadlines and posting rules. Rely on an award hold only if the airline confirms it for your booking.
